Naira Scarcity: Olododo Suspends Campaign, as Oloriegbe Calls for Calm

By Dare Akogun

The Social Democratic Party candidate for Ilorin East and South Federal Constituency, Hon. (Dr) Abdulganiyu Saka Cook-Olododo has announced tentative suspension of his campaigns across the 23 wards of the constituency.

The suspension, according to a statement by the Director Media and Publicity of Ganiyu Saka Cook-Olododo Campaign Council, Ibrahim Sheriff is as a result of the ongoing protests across various areas within Ilorin metropolis, most of which falls within the Federal constituency Olododo represents.

The campaign train, billed to hit Oke Oyi / Oke ose, Maya / Ile Apa and Agbeyangi /Gbadamu Osin wards is called off, as a result of the civil unrest caused by the Naira currency scarcity.

It would be recalled that Olododo had challenged the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele over the non availability of new currency in Kwara state, when Emefiele was invited by the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe has appealed to the indigenes and residents of his constituency to remain calm and remain peaceful pending the favourable resolutions to address the hardship.

The lawmaker made the call today in a statement through his media aide, Bolaji Aladie, assuring that all hands are on deck to ensure that normalcy is restored as soon as possible to protect the livelihoods of the masses which have been grounded since the policy was declared.

Oloriegbe who expressed concerned over the issue urged members of his constituency to remain peaceful and unprovoked pending the time the government will be able to restore normalcy in response to the debilitating effects of the currencies swap.

He also assured that the National Assembly will not leave no stone unturned to ensure the issue is resolved.
