Energy Advocates Launch Solutions to Accelerate Clean Energy Transition at COP29

Leading voices in the energy transition Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) and Solar Impulse Foundation (SIF) have unveiled a new initiative titled “Double Down, Triple Up: 20 Solutions in Action.”

The project unveiled at the ongoing COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, highlights 20 practical examples of how renewable energy and energy efficiency are being deployed globally to meet ambitious climate goals.

This initiative builds upon the success of the Double Down, Triple Up campaign launched at COP28, which established the global targets of doubling energy efficiency and tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030.

It seeks to demonstrate that these targets are aspirational and achievable through strategic investments, policy alignment, and innovation.

Bruce Douglas, CEO of GRA, emphasized integrating renewables with energy efficiency.

“Meeting our 2030 targets to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency will help deliver a clean, secure, and just energy transition, not simply energy addition. These solutions already exist and are scalable,” he said.

He revealed that the initiative highlights diverse examples of implemented solutions, such as using advanced insulation to reduce building energy demand.

” Also Harnessing waste heat in industries for greater efficiency, expanding solar manufacturing while restoring ecosystems, and enhancing urban sustainability with smart city infrastructure,” he said.

SIF Chairman Bertrand Piccard underscored the economic and environmental benefits of combining renewables with efficiency.

“Renewable energies and energy efficiency provide cleaner energy sources and significant financial savings. This initiative shows that a qualitative economy can reduce waste and consumption without shrinking economic growth or leaving anyone behind.”

According to GRA and SIF, achieving the Double Down, Triple Up targets could deliver 80% of the emissions reductions needed to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

This approach offers a pathway to phase out fossil fuels, bolster energy security, create green jobs, and ensure stable and affordable energy, particularly for emerging economies in Africa and other developing regions.

The initiative calls on governments, businesses, and communities to adopt and scale these solutions, leveraging them to strengthen Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and accelerate the transition to a clean energy future.

As COP29 continues, this project serves as a rallying point for global action, showcasing achievable pathways to a secure and sustainable energy landscape.
