COP29 High-Level Champion Unveils ‘Impact Makers’ Campaign to Showcase Climate Solutions at Global Events

The UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29, Nigar Arpadarai, has unveiled a new global campaign titled Impact Makers aimed at spotlighting effective climate action across various regions and industries.

In a video posted on her X handle she said the campaign will showcase innovative projects and solutions that are actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping communities adapt to the challenges of climate change.

According to her the Impact Makers campaign will highlight social entrepreneurs, community leaders, and startups, featuring up to 50 participants selected on a rolling basis.

“These “Impact Makers” will be profiled at major climate events, including Climate Week New York City and COP29 in Azerbaijan, as well as on a dedicated online platform.

“The initiative will continue to grow through to COP30, scheduled for Brazil in 2025,” she said .

Nigar Arpadarai emphasized the importance of fostering solidarity and innovation, stating, “Climate change is a global challenge requiring a global response. It also presents the opportunity of a lifetime to create a fairer world for future generations.”

She hopes the campaign will inspire individuals and communities worldwide to contribute to the fight against climate change.

The campaign will focus on critical areas such as energy, transport, industry, land use, ocean and coastal zones, water, and human settlements, in line with the Marrakech Partnership’s mission of mobilizing ambitious climate action.

A social media push using the hashtag #COP29ImpactMakers will encourage global participation, with individuals sharing ‘before and after’ stories of climate action projects.

Selected nominees will be showcased at the campaign’s official launch on 23 September during Climate Week New York City.
