The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) is set to hold a one-day Capacity Building Training on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, aimed at equipping its members with the latest trends in journalism practice.
This announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by ASKOMP Secretary, Oyewale Oyelola, in Ilorin.
The training, themed “Upholding Journalistic Standards in the Digital Age,” will take place at Crystal House, Ilorin GRA, commencing at 10 am.
According to Oyelola, the event will feature prominent facilitators, including Dr. Sadudeen Abdulrasheed from the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Ilorin, and former Secretary of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Ilorin Chapter, Barrister Olateju.
Keynote speakers for the training will include Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Mrs. Bola Olukoju, Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, and the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara Command, DSP Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi.
Oyelola revealed that over 40 members from various professional online news platforms operating in Kwara State are expected to attend the training.
He emphasized that the Association is committed to upholding journalistic ethics and international best practices, noting that this refresher course is both timely and critical given the evolving dynamics of journalism in the digital age.
The training aims to reinforce the importance of maintaining high journalistic standards and adapting to the digital landscape, ensuring that media practitioners in Kwara State are well-equipped to meet contemporary challenges in the field.
