The Deputy Governor of Kwara, Chief Kayode Alabi, has led the state government’s delegation to Odo-Ase community in Oke Ero Local Government Area over Friday night’s downpour that washed away the bridge linking it with other parts of the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the weekend in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to the statement, the delegation also visited the Orisa bridge, where the embankment was washed away, amid the administration’s ongoing construction of a new bridge at the same spot.
“The delegation visited the communities on Saturday to commiserate with the people and assess the requirements for reconstruction.
The Governor sends his commiserations to the people of the communities.
“He reassures them that immediate steps will be taken to reconstruct the bridge as soon as possible to reconnect the people to their neighbouring communities,” said the governor.
The entourage included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transport, Alhaji Ishaq Olorukooba, and other officials from the ministry.
Similarly, the Governor also inspected the flooded areas at Lafiagi Local Government Area and reassured the flood victims of his administration’s continued support and intervention.
The Governor expressed this on Sunday at the Palace of the Emir of Lafiagi during his visit to the flooded Agrarian community of Pututa village and Gwa bridge in Lafiagi town.
The Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, who represented the Governor sympathized with the people on the sad incident that occurred at the Pututa village and Gwa bridge in Lafiagi community where farmers lost farm investment worth millions of naira due to the ravaging flood in the community.
The Emir of Lafiagi, Alh. Mohammed Kudi Kawu said the flooding has been reoccurring for years and it is majorly caused by the dredging of the Niger River which is close to the community. This crisis he said is overwhelming to the economy since Lafiagi is a strong agrarian community.
He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for responding in less than 24 hours to their distress call.
